Privacy Statement

The Southeast Virginia Java Users Group is an non-profit, educational organization dedicated to educating the general public and ourselves about the Java language and its related technology. We cannot be successful in this endeavor if our events become awash in commercialism. We recognize our need to obtain sponsorships from corporations and vendors, but our primary duty is to the general public, and to the supporters and volunteers who have joined our group.. Their privacy needs come before the needs of any sponsor.

All personal information collected from our supporters, volunteers, and affiliates is kept private. We will never use our mailing lists except to fulfill the stated purposes of the group. Specifically, we will use personal information:

Mailing lists will not be distributed, given, loaned, rented, sold, or otherwise disclosed to any third party. Mailing lists will not be disclosed to anyone in the group itself, except in order to perform official functions on behalf of the group -- this is to prevent people from joining just to find sales leads, recruiting, etc. SEVAJUG does not prohibit or even discourage participants from sharing their personal information with each other; but SEVAJUG will make every effort to preserve each participant's right to make that decision individually.

Special interest mailing lists may be created at the discretion of the officers for various purposes, to which participants may send messages which are broadcast to all subscribers; however these lists will always be strictly opt-in/opt-out at the request of each participant who wishes to receive these mailings.

From time to time, there may be vendor-sponsored raffles, give-aways, door-prizes, or contests that require dropping a business card into a 'hat.' These business cards may be given to the vendor providing the prizes being awarded. Participation in such a contest constitutes your consent to this transfer of your personal information.

If our Privacy Policy ever changes, we will inform the community and every SEVAJUG participant via all means available to us (currently e-mail, web site, meeting announcements).
